Childhood - Wolverhampton Nuffield

Childhood was installed at Wolverhampton Nuffield on 11th March 2020 just a short time before the first national lock-down for COVID-19. The sculpture was made possible as a result of a generous legacy from Miss Hester Estella Mottershead, patient of the hospital and respected, long serving Head Mistress of Wolverhampton Girls High School.

The sculpture hopes to reflect the innocence of childhood and the joy from the simple absorption of imagination and learning in keeping with the bequest and for visitors and patients of the hospital to sit with and hopefully enjoy.

The sculpture will be formally unveiled when circumstances allow. Until then the image offers a refreshing reminder of what childhood represents - namely the inevitable passage of time, hope for the future, and that, if history shows us only one thing, it is that even the most extraordinary, and difficult times end and pass.
